A dog was laying on the floor of his owner's home as he noticed a cake on the table. Curiously, he jumped from the chair to the table. His mouth drooled as he took a large bite from the cake. Within seconds it was gone. His human was infuriated when he saw the cake was gone. All of a sudden a mouse scurried across the floor. The dog chased it until it suddenly stopped. A candy used to decorate the cake lay on the floor. The candy was gone as soon as the mouse got a hold of it. The dog and mouse then put their differences aside and ate more cake together. The End.

I jump in, h eadfirst into the water. As I dive in my body is engulfed in cold water starting with my head all the way to my toes. Wishing I was in more open water, I open my eyes and swim along the floor of the pool. Veterans have put their lives at risk so we can sleep at night knowing we’re safe. They must leave our country and fight for our freedom. Not only do they risk their lives but might have to take another person’s life. Therefore, we should honor veterans every day, and not just veteran's day. Many veterans also face poverty due to one or more of several reasons. The number is only rising as more veterans return. Over half of homeless veterans have been diagnosed with mental disorders. Veterans should be honored every day for the struggles they went through during service, and upon returning home for many. Greg Blackburn, a veteran of the Vietnam war, told my class and I, “when you are in the service, it is for one reason: so, mother, father, brother and sister can sleep at night.” What he was saying made me think about how selfless veterans are.
